Cheyennes Duck Derby set to run for another year
A quacking good time has been arranged for Cheyenne, and the public is invited to adopt a duck and get in on the fun to help support local youth.
This year marks the 11th running of the Special Friends Million Dollar Duck Derby, and its organizers have planned for it to be bigger and better than ever. Four thousand rubber ducks will be dropped into the water off Kennedy Drive, and they will float and bob their way along to the Amphitheater in Lion’s Park. The first one to cross the finish line will be the winner.
Businesses can also choose to sponsor the event, and they can participate in the race, dubbed ‘the KenDUCKy Derby’ for a corporate prize selected just for this group of contestants. A local printer that produces promotional products will be able to craft branded ducks and other materials that can help to ensure a day like this is a success.
The monies raised through the duck derby will be used to fund programming through the Special Friends initiative, which provide mentoring and other help to at risk youth throughout the community. It has been planned for the afternoon of June 27 in Lion’s Park, and the race will begin at 2:00 pm. Ducks can be purchased ahead of time or on the day of the event, and more details can be found on the community’s website.
