Cheyenne workshop to demonstrate basics of grafting
There are many reasons why knowing proper grafting techniques can be beneficial to the home gardener, and these will be the focus of a demonstration taking place this spring.
Cheyenne Titanic Garden has made arrangements to offer a pruning demonstration and clinic, and it will be centered on stone and other tree fruit crops such as apples and pears.
Scott Skogerboe will be sharing his expertise on the day. The cost to participate is $15, which must be paid in advance.
During the class, Skogerboe will introduce some of the methods used to graft a scion onto a root stock. The attendees will find out how this can lead to improved tree vigor and flower and fruit production, while also creating a plant that is strong and better able to withstand harsh conditions. The demonstration will take place in Cheyenne Botanic Gardens’ Gathering Rooms, and anyone who feels it could be helpful to them is encouraged to sign up.
Offering plant care clinics is one of the ways a horticultural institution can lend a hand to home gardeners. A printer will have a variety of themed promotional products available for distribution to the registrants in a class.
This demonstration for grafting techniques for fruit trees will be offered on April 9 at 10:00 am. Additional information is available by contacting colson@cheyennecity.org.
