Cheyenne project to expand tree canopy
Planting a tree makes an investment in the future and this will be the driving force behind a Cheyenne hands-on volunteer event.
A day in mid-September will see volunteers fan out to engage in a tree planting session. There will be two shifts scheduled for the activity, and the meet-up point for the registrants will be set up at 4300 Converse Avenue. The activity is free to take part in, and as many people as possible are invited to get involved, since many hands make light work.
The day will open with breakfast and a discussion of the safe tree planting practice that will be followed. Once everyone is ready, it will be time to head to the planting sites. The crews will return for lunch, after which the second shift will get started. Everyone who signs up is asked to bring a sturdy pair of gloves and wear appropriate footwear, with bottled water also recommended.
To keep the day organized, each registrant will be assigned to a team of volunteers led by a trained crew leader. A printing services company can prepare lanyards, vests, T-shirts and other gear that indicates an individual is in a leadership position at a special event.
The chance to help Cheyenne expand its urban tree canopy will be held on Saturday, September 16. The check-in time will be 7:30 am.
