Cheyenne arboretum offers walking plant workshop
Cheyenne’s gardeners may not always have access to the best growing conditions, but a local walking workshop will introduce them to shrubs and trees that are tough enough to take on the challenge.
High Plains Arboretum will be welcoming an activity planned by CB Gardens and Urban Forestry Project, and it will introduce trees that have adapted well to the conditions found in Wyoming. The species and cultivars discussed all offer ease of care. Tickets to take part are $15, plus any applicable fees and taxes.
The walk will be led by Jessica Friis, who will point out the shrubs and trees in the arboretum that have thrived with little care and attention. Everyone can ask questions, and at the end of the walk, it will be time for a picnic lunch. As there will be no tables, everyone is encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chair. While they will need to bring their own main course, dessert will be provided.
A plant ID walk and talk or other nature-based activity can make learning fun. Field guides, plant care tip sheets, and other materials for an activity can be created by stationery printers.
This introduction to the trees and shrubs tough enough to take on the Cheyenne’s climate is set for Monday, July 7. It will begin at 10:00 am at the High Plains Arboretum.
