Those who like to relive the 1980s, even if they were not around back then will enjoy the Charleston Light Opera Guild's summer production of ‘The Wedding Singer’, a musical comedy based on the movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
The production runs through August 10 at the Civic Center Little Theater, in Charleston, near South Charleston. The Light Opera Guild could use poster printing to spread the word of the performances and sell more tickets.
Although the film version of ‘The Wedding Singer’ wasn't a musical, it did feature a number of songs, performed by Adam Sandler, who played a wedding singer trying to get over being jilted by his fiancée. Over the course of the movie, he meets and falls for a waitress named Julia, played in the movie by Drew Barrymore.
On the Charleston stage, the part of Julia will be played by Lauren Meyer, a 25-year-old actress and singer who trained at New York's American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Meyer told the Charleston Gazette that she was a fan of the movie and took a liking to the script of the musical just a few years ago.
Performances take place at 7:30 pm on August 8 and 9 and at 3:00 pm on August 10. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the Opera Guild's website.
