Tasty event to raise money for local organization

A culinary experience featuring local chefs is set to benefit a local organization and give South Charleston residents a special meal in late August.

Chef’s Challenge is a multi-course meal prepared for guests by a group of local popular chefs from various restaurants, hotels, bakeries, and culinary education programs. The ingredients available are limited to items typically found in a home pantry. This provides the “challenge” aspect of the evening.

Paul Smith is going to be honored at the dinner for his James Beard Award nomination for his work with 1010 Bridge, Barkadas, The Pitch Sports Bar & Grill, and Ellen’s Ice Cream. Other chefs who will be part of the day include Betty Reed of Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston, Evan Wilson of Ichiban Pan-Asian Cuisine, Kevin Madison of Black Sheep Burrito and Brews, Dennis Harris of Edgewood Country Club, Morgan Morrison of Rock City Cake Co, Joshua Reedy of Bridge Road Bistro, Teri Blevins of Lil’ Bit of Heaven Cupcakes, and Mandy Gum of Carver Career Center. Gum will be assisted by some of the center’s culinary students.

The $125 seat price tag will go to Covenant House of West Virginia (CHoWV), an organization that helps community with housing, healthcare, and food via advocacy, direct services, and education. Donations can be given by those unable to attend using CHoWV’s website, where reservations for the event can also be made. Flyer printing is a frequent technique for creating ads in promotion of a charity gathering or fundraiser.

The activity will last from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on August 29, taking place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
