A program ensuring South Charleston veterans have nutritious food on their tables is seeking volunteers, who will be doing a good turn for homeless and low-income former service members.
Soldiers’ Angels provides food assistance each month with the help of a drive-through style of system. The helpers will be working outdoors and will follow Covid prevention measures, with work taking place rain or shine.
The volunteers will be asked to pack Bags of groceries for distribution, and while all offers of help will be appreciated, they are advised that the tasks will involve bending, standing, and also lifting. Everyone who participates is reminded to dress appropriately for both the work and the weather, and the food will be disbursed at the Elks Lodge located at 1113 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard. The function is one of many similar events Soldiers' Angels will be facilitating across the country.
Veterans may find themselves in financial distress for a variety of reasons, and a function like this gives them a hand up. T-Shirts, name tags and lanyards, and their Promotional Products for the occasion may be prepared by area printers, along with signage and various marketing materials.
This food distribution day is scheduled for October 12, and it will be running from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. Its website has been updated with information and an application for potential volunteers.
