South Charleston runners ready for half marathon
Many runners here in South Charleston are getting ready to take on either the University of Charleston Half Marathon or its 5k coming in early April.
The course for the races will be flat and will run along the scenic Kanawha River and through neighborhoods. This is a loop, so half marathon runners will run two loops, and the 5k runners will run one. Both races will end on the riverbank on the university campus.
Registration and race packets will be available from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 4 at the Geary Student Union, 2300 MacCorkle Avenue, SE Charleston, and registration may also be completed from 6:00 am to 7:30 am on race day.
Proceeds from these races will go to college and local student development programs, and towards developing and producing race awards and participation medals.
Registration for the half marathon will be $100 until March 31 and $125 after that, while registration for the 5k will be $40 until March 31 and $45 after. Swag for half marathon runners will be tech fabric long-sleeved shirts, while high-quality cotton T-shirts will go to the 5k runners. Many running events make use of nearby print shops and their logo and graphic design services.
