The state of West Virginia has several holiday-centric events within a few hours' drive of South Charleston. People looking for a new way to celebrate the winter holidays have a number of options to pick from.
Organizers of holiday light festivals and shows can use Flyers to spread the word about their events and to let visitors know what new surprises await them this year.
Over in Wheeling, the Oglebay Resort is home to one of the country's largest winter light festivals. The festival features 80 displays across 300 acres. The route through the light festival is six miles long and offers displays of Cinderella, a rainbow tunnel, and Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang.
The Oglebay Resort's festival is on until January 1.
The Holiday of Lights is spread over 40 acres in Bluefield City Park and has more than 700,000 lights. Along with the drive through the light show, visitors to the Holiday of Lights can participate in trolley rides and hayrides with Santa Claus. The festival is open through December 31.
One of the longest running holiday events in the area around South Charleston is Lacy's LIghts and Maples Display, which is celebrating its 46th year. More than four decades ago, the display began as the effort of two families. Today, it has around 300,000 lights that cover most of Fayette County Park. The lights will be lit through December 30.
