Bill Nye might be a popular figure, but organizers of the Chancellor's STEM Speaker Series in Charleston, near South Charleston, only recently learned how popular he is.
Tickets to see the former TV host and well-known science educator sold out in less than an hour on the day they went on sale. Describing the ticketing frenzy, LeAnn Cain, a spokesperson for the Clay Center, told the Charleston Gazette that "it was crazy over here".
Nye, who hosted ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy’ on PBS back in the 1990s, is scheduled to speak on the importance of lifelong learning, and on discovery and exploration in science. He was chosen as the headline act for the STEM Speaker Series because of his ability to engage and interact with an all-ages audience.
Although all the public bought tickets to all 1,883 seats at the Maier Foundation Performance Hall, all is not lost for those who were unable to get a ticket. People are still able to put their names on a waiting list by contacting the box office at the venue. The center could use poster printing to amend any advertising material for the event and to let people know that a waitlist is available for the sold-out talk. If any of the program's sponsors do not claim a seat, those seats might be opened to people on the waitlist.
Bill Nye's talk is scheduled for 7:00 pm on November 19.
