August might be a quiet time of the year in many other parts of the world, but in South Charleston and the surrounding area, it's full of events and activities.
Starting on August 17, the South Charleston Convention and Visitor's Bureau will host the annual Summerfest music festival. For three nights, through the 20th, a variety of bands and musicians will take to the stage near the Mound to entertain area residents and visitors. Along with musical performances, Summerfest offers free sno-cones and cotton candy, plus activities for kids. A dance party starts just after 8 pm each night. On the final night, fireworks are scheduled for 10 pm.
Visitor bureaus can make use of postcard printing to spread the word about big summer events. Postcards are easy to distribute to people who live in town and to anyone passing through.
On August 19 through 27, the Kanawha Players will present "Elvis Has Left the Building," a comedy set in 1970. After Elvis disappears, his manager is forced to hire an impersonator to perform for him. Tickets are $15 or $10 for seniors or students.
Finally, on August 27, South Charleston residents will have the chance to indulge their sweet tooths at the Cupcake Festival. The festival will feature a 5k race, a car and motorcycle parade, amateur cupcake baking competition and a cupcake pageant.
