South Charleston celebrates women who give back

March is Women's History Month, and an event near South Charleston seeks to highlight local women who have made a big impact in their community.

The annual ‘Women Who Care’ networking reception, now in its second year, is hosted by the West Virginia Regions' branch of the American Red Cross. According to the regional communications and marketing direction, Krista Farley Raines, the local Red Cross "wanted to do something that would honor the women [who] are changing lives every day."

The event will feature a number of speakers, each addressing a topic of the Red Cross' five lines of service. There will also be time for networking and mingling over the course of the evening. Women who attend should make sure to stock up on digital Business Cards beforehand, so that they have them to give out to anyone they meet.

Among the evening's speakers will be Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, the first lady of West Virginia, who will be giving the keynote speech. Her address is going to highlight the importance of volunteering. The other speakers include Joanie Newman, who volunteers with the Red Cross, Siobhan Cavanaugh from Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Nikki Bowman from New South Media, and Linda Reynolds, who now volunteers with the Red Cross but was once a client.

Scheduled for this Wednesday, March 18, tickets to the reception and event are $25 per person and are available online. The event will take place at the West Virginia Culture Center Great Hall from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
