At the beginning of February, a group of industry representatives and community leaders from South Charleston gathered for breakfast and a discussion of the potential of the city.
The event was South Charleston's 27th Annual Groundhog Day Breakfast. However, instead of reliving the past over and over again, the breakfast's attendees focused on ways to move forward in the future.
Organizers of programming for community leaders can use Print shops to prepare for the events, such as by printing name cards for each person's seat, as well as programs for the event itself.
Frank Mullens, the city's mayor, filled attendees in on the progress being made on certain projects in the area. Mullens discussed the Park Place shopping facility and the Jefferson road expansion, both of which are underway.
As part of his remarks, Mullens stated:
“We have had a lot of success in South Charleston, we’re very successful with economic development and we work very hard. We are trying to become a destination location, and I think we’re on track to do just that.”
At the end of last month, Mullens reported, the Division of Highways got several bids for the Jefferson Road project. The goal of the project is to increase the width of the road to five lanes. The aim is to lower the accident rate and improve traffic in the area.
The annual Groundhog Day Breakfast is sponsored by Huntingdon National Bank and organized by the local Chamber of Commerce.
