Many paddlewheel enthusiasts here in South Charleston will be going to see the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta for five days of bands, festivals, carnivals, and sternwheel boat races.
Festivities will begin on Wednesday, July 3 at 1:00 pm with a Sternwheel Regatta Carnival at Haddad Riverfront Park. Other attractions in the park will include The Tom Batchelor Band and reggae legend Shaggy. A beer festival will be at Slack Plaza in City Center.
On Thursday, which is July 4, the Plaza will host a family fun zone beginning at noon, and the Haddad Riverfront Park will have a hot dog eating contest, followed by a fireworks extravaganza at 9:30 pm. On the Friday, there will be the family fun zone, a Sternwheel Regatta Carnival at the riverfront, and fire parade.
Saturday’s attendees may enjoy starting the day with the Firecracker 5k, and can continue with wiener dog races, a dog costume parade on Magic Island, an umbrella decorating contest, and a rubber duck race.
Sunday, July 7, is the final day and will begin with the Mindful Triathlon, then a classic car show, ‘80s dance party, sternwheel boat, and carnival, after which everyone may go to the Capitol Market to watch the BBQ Challenge.
Paddlewheel boats are popular subjects for Stationery printers to put on the front of their special-event summer cards.
Charleston Sternwheel Regatta will take place in Downtown Charleston.
