Recycling nonprofit offers programs in South Charleston

On November 21, models wearing a very different type of fashion will strut down the runway at Charleston Town Center Mall, near South Charleston.

As part of the 13th annual ReFashion Show, sponsored by the Recycling Coalition of WV, Inc., the models will be wearing clothing made out of repurposed or recycled materials. Participants will be divided into two age groups, those under 13 and those over age 14. There will also be a number of categories to choose from, such as the Charleston Newspaper challenge, meaning the fashion is primarily made from newspapers, or the Coca-cola challenge, meaning the clothing using recycled Coke bottles and other Packaging.

Registration for the ReFashion Show begins at 11:00 am on the 21st. Participants can enter individually or in a group in one of four categories. A winner will be chosen from each category, as well as first, second and third prize winners for each age group.

The Recycling Coalition of WV, Inc. has made Flyers to promote the fashion show, which is just one of several programs it runs to educate the public about recycling. The organization also has a number of lesson plans that are designed to be used by teachers in public schools in West Virginia. Along with the lesson plans, which can be customized based on grade level, the organization is also giving out up to six gift cards worth $200 to help teachers bring the plans to life.
