Fellowship program encourages young people to choose West Virginia

A relatively new fellowship program hopes to change public opinion and demonstrate that there are plenty of opportunities for young people in South Charleston and wider West Virginia.

The Generation West Virginia Impact WV Fellowship program pairs successful applicants with one of several companies operating in the state. In 2017, nearly 200 people from around the world sent in applications for the program. Just seven fellows were chosen to work with five companies.

The fellows last for 12 months and begin in September of each year. Fellows receive a salary of $31,000, plus benefits. They work just four days per week, and spend their Fridays performing community service.

Governments and nonprofit organizations that create fellowship programs often use Print companies to prepare the application materials and to let people know about the benefits of the programs.

The Impact WV Fellowship program will soon be accepting applications for its second round of fellowships. Although only five companies participated last year, this year, the number of companies on board is up to eleven. The number of fellowships available has also increased to fifteen, from seven.

The first round of applications opens on January 31 and closes on March 18, at which time the second phase begins and closes on April 1. Interviews for finalists will take place in May.
