Grocery shoppers in South Charleston will get a break on the cost of food later this month.
The German discount grocery store chain Aldi is set to open its second store in the county very soon. There will be a ribbon cutting starting at 8:45 am, and the grand opening celebration will continue throughout the day. It is common for supermarkets to hand out Promotional Products, such as Pens and cups, during grand opening celebrations.
Aldi could be described as the estranged brother of the grocery store chain Trader Joe's. The stores have the same family-run parent company in common, but one brother controls Trader Joe's and the other controls Aldi stores in the US.
Like Trader Joe's, Aldi stores mostly sell their own brand items, which allows it to offer items for a lower price. The chain is currently in the midst of a major expansion project and is spending $3bn to open more stores across the US.
The first 100 people to visit the new South Charleston Aldi will be entered for a chance to win a golden ticket. The prize will be worth up to $100 in purchases made on the opening day.
Aldi is replacing a former Staples store. The building has been under construction for several months.
Once it opens next Monday, October 17, the store hours will be from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Mondays through Saturdays, and from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm on Sundays.
