Back in 2003, a group of dental professionals from South Charleston and the surrounding communities decided to pay it forward by offering services to those in need. This day has come to be known as “Give Kids a Smile,” and it is set to return for 2020.
Since its inception, the event has been able to offer free treatment to more than 1,000 kids, and the list is expected to grow even longer this year. Volunteers and monetary donations are needed to help keep this smile-building day lending a hand to children in need of dental care, and dentists and other related professionals are needed, as is assistance from the general public.
Those who would like to support “Give Kids a Smile” by signing on to help for the day can choose from either an afternoon or morning shift, and T-Shirts that boast the function's Logo Design will be given to each volunteer to both help make them easier to spot and thank them for coming out.
Patient registration for local families is now open, and those that have no extended dental insurance coverage are eligible to receive services. These will be offered at no cost, and the applicants will be contacted by phone after they have submitted their request.
This year’s day of free dentistry for underprivileged West Virginia Kids will be held at 502 50th South Street in Kanawha City. Its website includes applications for families, volunteers and other supporters.
