Authors to visit South Charleston area this summer

Several authors who have had their work published by West Virginia University Press will visit the South Charleston area this summer.

Candace Nelson, who wrote "The West Virginia Pepperoni Roll", a history of West Virginia's unofficial state food, will discuss her work at Taylor Books on June 15. The event will feature a question and answer session with Nelson and Emily Hilliard, a folklorist who wrote the foreword to the book.

Nelson will also be on hand at Rolls on the River on June 20, which is West Virginia Day. The June 20th event will serve as a book launch as well as a fundraiser for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Attendees will get to sample a variety of takes on the traditional pepperoni roll, as well as craft beers from Mountain State Beverage.

Organizations that are putting together author events and book signings can use poster printing to get the word out.

On June 18, Marc Harshman, the poet laureate for West Virginia, is going to host a discussion and reading as part of FestivALL. Several non-fiction writers, including Eric Waggoner, Katie Fallon and Carter Taylor Seaton will join Harshman on stage. The event is scheduled for 3 pm.

Harshman is also scheduled to participate in "Poems While You Wait," on June 24, at the Taylor Books Annex. He and another poet, Doug Van Gundy, will write original poems for people participating in events held during FestivALL.
