Art gallery near South Charleston recognizes local photographers

Seven photographers who call West Virginia home are the focus of a new exhibition at Charleston's The Art Store, located near South Charleston.

The exhibition opened on April 8 with a reception and panel discussion featuring the artists. The new show is the first exhibit at the gallery to feature photography alone in about 10 years.

Although the photographers themselves are based in the state, the locations and subjects of the photos are not limited to West Virginia, nor do photographers need to be originally from the state. One artist, Perry Bennett, was born in Georgia but moved to Charleston three years. His day job is serving as the Chief Photographer for the legislature in WV.

Daniel Kaufman is another photographer who is not a native of WV. He was actually born in Vietnam, but grew up in Florida. Many of his photos in the exhibition are collages of works created in Photoshop.

Another photographer with pictures in the exhibition is Ana Forbes, who was a prosecutor before retiring in 2014 to pursue a career as an artist. Many of her photos are taken at home, in her studio or yard.

Art galleries can use postcard printing to get the word out about new exhibitions, and to encourage new visitors and returning fans to check it out.

The Art Store's exhibition runs through May 6. The photographs in the exhibition are available for sale, either in the form of limited edition prints or the originals that are on display.
