Annual arts and crafts fair returns

Come rain or shine, The South Charleston Commission for the Visual Arts will be presenting Around the Mound, the 45th annual Arts & Crafts Mound Fair in mid-September.

West Virginia artisans will be showcasing and selling original one-of-kind paintings, drawings, unique handcrafted jewelry, scarves, quilts and other textiles, carved wooden items, and glass work.

Professional artists will be judging each artisan's work and assigning awards in general crafts such as soaps, candles, and jewelry; fiber and primitives; metal, glass, pottery and wood; sculptures and graphics, and painting and photography categories.

Artists that win awards at events like this often have their pictures taken with their awards. These photos often find their way to local Print shops to be included in family newsletters.

Every year, treats, snacks, and beverages are available for purchase from local food trucks, and local organizations sell homemade cakes, cookies, and pastries.

As for entertainment, attendees can look forward to live music by local musicians and bands, dance performances, and street performers. Kids can enjoy activities of their own such as face painting and balloon art.

The free Arts & Crafts Mound Festival will take place Saturday, September 14. Artisans will be checking in from 6:00 am to 7:30 am, and the event will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at The Criel Mound, also known as the South Charleston Mound, at 301 7th Avenue (on Route 60).
