For the 55th year, GROWMARK has named its list of summer interns, and 53 college students will have the opportunity to explore the career possibilities at the agricultural supply cooperative.
The participating students are working in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, and Ontario, Canada. Drew Gilmer, resident of Watertown, WI, has been studying animal sciences and is currently working with Frontier-Servco FS, and will have the opportunity to invest in business card printing listing him as an intern at GROWMARK.
During the program, the interns are exposed to marketing, communications, accounting, and product-related activities. They attended an orientation program in May at the corporate office, and reconvene for an agribusiness tour in June. Each intern completes a special project and delivers a project presentation in August.
The benefit of an internship with the organization, according to its website, is that interns can study almost any branch of agriculture within the GROWMARK system – from agronomy and seed sales, to energy markets and accounting, to communications and human resources.
Nearly 900 students have been involved in GROWMARK’s intern program since its inception in 1959. The cooperative has its roots in Bloomington, Illinois. Established back in the 1920s, it is based around farmer cooperatives that allow rural customers to get the resources they need to be successful in agriculture and agribusiness.
