The city of Watertown is encouraging all residents to stay informed about regulations that have the goal of keeping sidewalks and streets accessible and safe during snow events as the winter weather approaches.

When there is a snow emergency, there is no parking on the alleys and streets of the city between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. for a period of 48 hours during as emergency. Municipal parking lots can be used by residents without off-street parking, or they can arrange alternate parking with family or neighbors to avoid paying a fine.
The city is also reminding property owners or those who have responsibility for a property that all ice and snow needs to be removed from driveway aprons and sidewalks abutting their property. Salt, sand, or an ice-melting compound can be used to treat ice that cannot be removed and accumulates to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Police Chief Dave Brower said that it is important to follow these regulations. He said that there are many challenges for the community with winter weather and it is vital that residents cooperate with the cleaning of sidewalks and with parking so that walkways and streets can be safe for everyone.
