Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has recently donated $5m to the Greater Watertown Community Health Foundation in an effort to highlight the need for such funds in rural regions of the country.
Tina Crave, president and CEO of the Foundation, said that the funds will enable the organization to invest and focus on improving education, early care, and housing. Such organizations can inform residents and other agencies in the area about such donations with Flyers and other materials created by local Print shops.
The request for the funding started with a consulting firm representing a donor, who wished to remain anonymous, asking about its partnership with the Every Child Thrives program. This program works with regional partners to create common goals and align resources to ensure the health and wellbeing of children. The Foundation is also planning a $16m project on the south side of Watertown that will be used by the YMCA.
Dr. Mike Sullivan, chair of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, expressed his honor on behalf of the Foundation that such a prominent national donor was investing in such communities. Sullivan added that his organization is one of few in the state to be honored in such a fashion and it demonstrates confidence in the ability of the organization to have a positive effect on children and their families.
