Kikkoman Foods, a manufacturer of soy sauce, is planning to expand its brewing plant in Walworth and build a new facility in Jefferson. These plans could create over 80 jobs over the next 12 years and may be of interest to those living in nearby Watertown.
To assist with this project, $15.5 million in tax credits have been approved by the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

The facility in Jefferson, which is closest to Watertown, will be the third plant of the company in the United States. The first one was in Walworth, built in 1973. Governor Tony Evers said that since then, it has become the highest-producing soy sauce plant in the world.
Kikkoman has spent several years searching for its third manufacturing plant in the United States. Yuzaburo Mogi, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, said that the site in Jefferson was selected for its outstanding workforce, pure water, central location for raw materials, excellent access to markets, and spirit of partnership in the community.
The facility in Jefferson will produce teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, and other seasonings related to soy sauce. It will span 250,000 square feet and groundbreaking on the initial phase is expected to take place in June. Shipping from the facility is scheduled to begin in 2026.
