The radio version of Arsenic and Old Lace will be performed by the Watertown Players later this month at their theater in The Market on Water Street.
Special performances such as these are often promoted throughout a city and neighboring communities with poster printing.
Joseph Kesselring wrote the original play in 1939 and it was adapted as a radio production in reader’s theater format by Ernest Kinoy. The director for the production is Jennie Ortega and the director of technical and sound effects is Jim Steffl.
The plot centers on the Brewster family, comprised of elderly aunts—Martha and Abbey—and their three nephews. The family has multiple dark secrets and one of the nephews employs them to prevent his marriage, until he finds one more secret that enables his marriage to proceed.
The Watertown Players Theater is a non-profit volunteer organization that seeks to provide quality live theater for people of all ages from children to senior citizens, as well as educational and outreach opportunities to involve the community. The theater develops partnerships and relationships in the community to enrich people’s lives and foster engagement.
The performances will be on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 at 7:00 pm, and on Sunday, August 28 at 2:00 pm. The price of advance general admission tickets is $15, or $20 if bought on the door on performance day.
