Concept approval has been given to Hartland Shores for its multifamily-housing development plan on Allwardt Street in Watertown.
The development will create 128 apartments, offering units with two and three bedrooms. The plot, which spans 20 acres, will have a landscape corridor and path to connect Mary Rose Park to Allwardt Street. It is expected that the project will cost approximately $31 million and will consist of two phases.
Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of such planned developments.
The Watertown Unified School District is selling the land; the original plan was to build a school on the property.
Mason Becker, Strategic Initiatives and Development Coordinator from the city of Watertown, said this new plan from Hartland Shores rearranges the layout of the apartment buildings and offers more communal space. Becker said that it adds another building phase. This will be 30 condominium units for single families, which is a new concept in the city but one that is becoming very popular in the state.
Emily McFarland, mayor of Watertown, expressed her appreciation for the time and effort made by the developer and the residents into producing this revised site plan. She also thanked Becker for all his efforts in working on this plan which will add close to $40 million of housing that is very much needed in the community.
