A robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci X robotic surgical system is now being offered by the Watertown Regional Medical Center (WRMC).
This system provides patients and surgeons another option for gynecological and general surgeries that are minimally invasive and include hysterectomies, gallbladder surgery, and hernia repair.
CEO of WRMC, Richard Keddington, expressed his excitement about receiving the da Vinci X surgical system. He added that it has already been used to improve the care delivered to patients. He said that this new robotic surgery will enable those in Watertown and surrounding communities to have access to the most technologically advanced care possible.
The decision to perform surgery using the robotic system is made by the patient with input from the surgeon. OB-GYN at the Center for Women’s Health, Dr. Jason McMaster, said that he describes all the surgical options to a patient and provides more written information so that they can read about each procedure and make a decision that best suits their need. Such written information is often made possible with the help of Flyers created by local Print shops.
WRMC has two surgeons who are fully trained on using the robotic-assisted surgical system. Dr. McMaster uses the technique for gynecological surgeries and Dr. Garrett Fleming has used the technique in general surgeries. Dr. Danish Siddiqui and Dr. Adam Dachman are currently completing their training on the technique.
