The final phase of the expansion project of the Watertown Public Library is currently underway.
Peg Checkai, the director of the library, said the side of the library that has been renovated is completed and a punch list still needs to be done. Checkai said that the entire collection of the library needs to be moved back and put in order. This includes the DVD and audio book collection, over 80,000 Books, and the Lucky Day Collection, making a total of about 100,000 items.
In addition, new bookcases are scheduled to arrive, along with new furniture. The area for children needs finishing touches and computers in the technology center need to be set up.
Among the features of the updated library are several small meeting rooms, rooms to support larger programming and events, and a TalkReadPlay Center for children. There will also be a new entrance on the south side, a new parking lot, and a drop lane for returning books. There will be a glass wall overlooking the future Town Square which will provide natural light and a view. Flyer printing is often used to offer more details about such new amenities and features of a new space.
This work is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. A soft opening is planned for Monday, January 24 with a larger celebration to be held outdoors in spring.
