Weekend festival comes to Madison venue

Madison's Overture Center will be holding International Festival 2024 in late June.

The free two-day event will celebrate the cultural diversity found in Madison and throughout Dane County, with more than 30 free performances at different locations around the center.

On the Saturday, the Overture Hall Main Lobby will feature a lion dance by the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association, Romany French jazz by LuLu Quintet, Conjunto and Norteno music by Cris and Ann Plata, and Columbian fusion played by Son Del Atlantico.

Overture Hall will have Mexican, Chinese, Bolivian dances, Japanese Taiko drumming, bagpipes, and capoeira, which is a combination of music, dance, acrobatics, and martial arts.

The Rotunda stage will have a German chorus, traditional Hmong poetry songs, Irish traditional music, Afro-pop, fiddle music, and Odissi dance.

Guinean traditional dance and drumming, along with Highland, Indian, Lithuanian, Flamenco, and Irish dance troops, will entertain on the Capitol Theater stage. Another six more acts are scheduled for the Playhouse.

Sunday’s entertainment will be the Lion Dance, Chinese culture, French and Romany jazz, and Madison-based Japanese Taiko drumming in the Overture Hall Main Lobby. Around 30 vendors will be in the International Market and Food area.

Stationery printers often use colorful pictures taken at events such as this for their international-themed cards.

International Festival 2024 will take place Saturday, June 29 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday, June 30 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Overture Center, 201 State Street.
