University to show off best of brass

UW Madison School of Music invites all horn enthusiasts to its ‘Celebrate Brass’ week. The event will be a celebration of instruments and music from the section. Most of the events will be free.

A Week of Masters classes, concerts, open rehearsals, and colloquia will be open to the public. The topics of the free master classes will be trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, brass quintet coaching, and audition strategies.

Free concerts will be presented during the evenings. The final night will be called ‘Brass Alchemy’, which is the name of the Gala Festival Concert. Performances that night will include a grand finale featuring the artists of the previous week’s concerts, plus the UW-Madison Music faculty and students. General admission tickets for the final concert will cost $25, while students get in free.

All attendees will get an opportunity to meet the musicians at a free reception following the performance. The open forum will be hosted by Oystien Baacsvik, whose presentation is entitled ‘On the Road with My Tuba’. Attendees may wish to have flyer printing completed to advertise the event.

The festival will be held during the week of October 8 to 13. The Gala Festival Concert will be held October 11 at the Mills Concert Hall at 8:00 pm. The other concerts will also be held in Mills Hall, Mosse Humanities Building, UW- Madison 455 North Park Street, Madison.
