Autumn is in the air, and that means Oktoberfest must be coming soon for Madison area German festival aficionados. In just a couple of weeks, Essen Haus will be presenting its 31st Oktoberfest.
Event organizers guarantee lots of ‘Gemütlichkeit’ (German for pleasant, peacefulness along with a feeling of belonging). The event will be free, though the host will be charging for food.
There will be lots of pie-eating contests, races, and games such as Hammerschlagan (stump game). There will also be a Kids’ Zone for the little ones. Grownups can enjoy the local artwork on display, and of course there will be the traditional German warm pretzels, a chicken and pig roast, and sauerkraut. Attendees may wish to exchange digital Business Cards if they meet businesspeople while there.
Jason Rowe will kick off the afternoon’s live entertainment starting at 4:00 pm. He will be followed by Dorf Kapelle, a group that presents authentic folk music of Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. For polka music, the evening’s offering will be Tom Brusky. He and his three-piece band are a third-generation Milwaukee polka outfit with a varied repertoire, which includes waltzes, variety music, and polka favorites such as ‘Roll out the Barrel’ and ‘She’s Too Fat for Me’.
The festival will be held September 13, from noon to 8:00 pm, at Essen Haus, 514 Wilson Street, Madison.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
