Madison swings into spring

Two Madison Black music dance workshops called "Swing into Sprint" have been scheduled for April.

The events will be part of a statewide live streaming experience led by scholar and renowned dancer LaTasha Barnes.

On Thursday, April 3, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Barnes and her associate Le'Andre Douglas will conduct a workshop continuum of Black dance and music from the 1920s to the present day at Madison Circus Space's Upper Studio, 2082 Winnebago Street.

At Goodman Community Centre on Saturday, April 12, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, attendees will participate in another dance workshop where they will learn a Black American Social dance incorporating contemporary styles such as hip-hop and house, as well as authentic jazz. The venue is at 149 Waubesa Street.

At 4:15 pm, guests will use their newly acquired skills in a group dance with attendees from both workshops in sync with other locations around the state in a livestream experience. A reception with LaTasha Barnes and her associates will follow from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with light refreshments and live music.

These free events will be open to all experience levels and ages and have been organized to bring the joy of dance to the community. Space is limited so anyone interested in attending will want to RSVP.
