Although events are often scarce in January, there are two virtual races scheduled locally.
Many Madison runners will be up and ready for the 1st Run 2021, also called New Year’s Virtual 5K Run/Walk. Since this will be a virtual event, others can sleep in and run at their own times and locations.
Swag that will be sent for the $28 registration fee includes a colorful metal 1st Run 2021 Finisher Medal with moving ball slide, and an official Tyvek Race Bib and completion certificate. Those runners that opt to run for free will receive a digital finisher medal, and downloadable finisher certificates and race bibs. The 1st Run 2021 Finisher shirts sporting this year’s event graphic design will be available for an additional fee of $20.
The 1st Run 2021 5K will go online Friday, January 1 at noon but pictures and times may be uploaded until January 31 at 11:30 pm.
Madison Museum of Contemporary Art will hold its annual MMOCA MOCAIC 5K as a virtual event this January also. This race is to raise funds for the museum.
Fees will be $35 and pictures of walkers and runners participating in the run/walk will be segments of a photo mosaic that will be in the MMOCA lobby and posted online starting February 23, 2021.
Registration comes with a scarf showing the work of artist Terrence Adeyanju.
The event will be January 15 to January 31.
