On this year’s summer solstice, Make Music Day will be a global music celebration in more than 1,000 international cities. Madison will be part of it as it hosts its own Make Music Madison.
Music will ring all over Madison with over 400 concerts in over 100 venues around the city during the one-day event. Some locations will be front porches, coffee shops, restaurants, and businesses.
Music performances, jam sessions, samba workshops, pop-up back-up bands, and DJ lessons will all be part of the day’s activities. Anyone and everyone is invited to participate or just sit back and enjoy the music. To get some idea of what can be expected, last year the city had audience participation in breakdancing at the Memorial Union, piano at Alumni Park, kids’ open mic, and sing-a-longs.
100 Harmonicas will be at the Madison Children’s Museum, a Bowie tribute band at Wirth Court Park, Cactus Joe and his guitar at Neighborhood House Community Center, and the DB orchestra will perform at the Livingston Inn.
Cities that sponsor events such as this usually have plenty of pictures taken. These photos are then used in brochure printing for visitor guides and for other tourists advertising.
Make Music Madison will take place tomorrow, June 21, with performances taking place between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
