Madison holds 27th annual fair trade festival

The holidays are coming soon, and Madison’s 27th Annual Fair Trade Holiday Festival will be coming in early December. Over 4500 guests are expected to attend.

Craftspeople and farmers in developing countries that traditionally have had a difficult time finding customers and markets are congregating at the festival to sell their handmade items and commodities.

Some of the items that will be for sale by over 40 vendors will include coffee from Ethiopia, Honduras, and Columbia; jewelry from Cambodia, India and Ethiopia; Alpaca clothing from Peru; artisan items from Colombia; home décor, women and kids’ accessories from Peru and Mexico, and sterling silver hand-crafted jewelry from Nepal. There will be hand-made slippers from Kyrgyzstan; leather goods from Vietnam; chocolate from Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Nicaragua; shawls, handbags and toys from Nepal, India, and Peru; and wearable art from Bali.

Some vendors will be sponsored by organizations dedicated to aiding them in marketing their wares. Some of these organizations will include Thai Village, ornament for Orphans (Peru, Uganda, Kenya), Madison-Rafah Sister City Project (Palestine), Trade of Hope (India, Haiti, Asia), Hope Institute of Uganda, and The Artisan Collective (Nepal, Mexico, Ecuador).

Supporters of events like this occasionally get flyer printing done and place Flyers in their associations, and businesses.

Madison's Fair Trade Holiday Festival will take place December 2nd from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Monoma Terrace, 1 John Nolen Drive (abutting Dane Count Farmers Market).
