The Fifth Annual Frozen Assets Festival will be coming in early February. The event will include a festival, 5K run/walk, and bike race. This will be a fundraiser for the upkeep of the water quality in local lakes.
This year’s theme will be Rio Winter Carnival. Music for the weekend will be Copacabana-style. The first evening will have an ice tent on Lake Mendota, free hot chocolate, s’mores, and open skating.
The following day will add kites on the lake, ice science lab, ice golf and ballet, figure skating, and Irish dancing performances.
Sunday’s agenda will round things off with curling, snowshoeing, and pond hockey.
Participants in Saturday’s 5K will run across Lake Mendota getting scenic views of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and downtown Madison. The course will start and end at the heart of the festival.
The Fat Bike night race will also be on Lake Mendota. Only fat bikes can ride in the 4.25 or 12.75 Fat Bike Race, whereas the Open Ride for all bike types will be a 4.5-mile course, and kids between the ages of 10 and 16 can ride the 4.25 mile course in the Junior Ride.
Madison can use this event as advertising in its 2020 visitor’s guide brochure printing.
Winter Assets will run next weekend, February 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, February 2 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm, and February 3 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at The Edgewater and Lake Mendota.
