The African Association of Madison will be presenting its Africa Fest and Strides for Africa 5k Run/Walk 2025 in mid-August.
Africa Fest will be a showcase of African culture featuring traditional handcrafted items from local vendors and authentic cuisine from the continent. The African Tent will offer demonstrations, storytelling, and crafts. Live performances will include entertainment from various African countries, ranging from contemporary Afrobeat back to traditional drumming.
The kick-off activity, the 15th Strides for Africa, will be a run/walk that will raise funds for education, health projects, and clean water in Africa. Registration for the 5k run will be $30, $20 for the 5k walk, $25 for the 1.5-mile walk, $30 for the 1.5-mile relay, and $15 for the quarter-mile fun walk. Swag will be Kenyan handmade paper bead bracelets that will support African women artisans.
The 5k run/walk will begin at 10:30 am while the 1.5-mile walk and team relay will start at 10:35 am. The Team Relay will have teams carrying Jerry cans containing water.
Africa Fest 2025 will take place from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday, August 16 at McPike Park, 202 South Ingersoll Street. The run/walk will begin at the park.
