Madison celebrates traditional music and dance

The Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective, a local nonprofit that supports traditional dance and music, will present its 16th annual two-day Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival in early August.

Three stages will have jams, workshops, and performances - all running at the same time.
The main stage will feature more formal performances. Buffalo Gospel (Americana), Wood and Wire (bluegrass), Hubby Jenkins (old time), and McKay & Leigh (classic country) will be on the lineup for Friday.

Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys, Larry Sparks (bluegrass), Eilen Jewell Band (Americana and blues), Lula Wiles (Americana) The Barnes, Gordy, Walsh Trio (bluegrass), and Nickel & Rose (folk and Americana) will take over the stage on Saturday.

The Roots and Reasons stage will feature workshops, interviews, demonstrations and discussion given by the performers. Here, guests will get the opportunity to learn techniques, culture, and history of traditional arts. Residents from Dane County will get their chance to integrate their newly-found skills and techniques at the stage’s jam sessions.

Local nonprofits will be on hand to distribute Business Cards, show displays, and talk to passersby about their missions, services and programs. Food will be available for purchase from local vendors.

The Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival will be August 2 and 3 at Lake Farm County Park. Guests will want to come prepared because this event will take place regardless of weather.
