Madison is all set up to celebrate the 158th Juneteenth, traditionally June 19th, the day set aside to commemorate Black American accomplishments both past and present through performances, lectures, entertainment, visual presentations, music, and food. Two events are being planned for June.
One particular event will be hosted by the Kujichagulia Madison Center for Self-Determination. This year’s theme will be “Juneteenth 2023…Black Resilience: Collective Liberation and Transformation.”
Governor Evers will be greeting everyone at 10:00am, with the 22nd Annual parade set to begin staging at Fountain Of Life Church, 633 W. Badger Road between 10:00am and 11:00am.
Organizations, first responders, cars, floats, marching units, motorized vehicles, agency and company mascots, will leave the parking lot at 11:00am and march along Park Street to Penn Park. The parade will end around noon.
Vendors will be selling merchandise at the park.
Madison’s 2023 Juneteenth will take place on Saturday, June 17th from noon to 6:00pm at Penn Park, 2101 Fisher Street.
Hilldale Shopping Center will be holding a free Shades of Black Culture Festival over Juneteenth weekend. Guests are invited to shop from over 20 small businesses and meet local artists. Kids can even enjoy a community art project, play games, and have their faces painted, while fathers will be given Fathers’ Day gift Bags.
Businesspeople that attend events like this have been known to bring Business Cards with them and consider it a networking opportunity.
Shades of Black Cultural Festival will take place Sunday, 18 June from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
