The area’s International Festival is coming to Madison toward the end of February. This event celebrates Dane County’s multicultural heritage.
Over 30 performances are on the agenda. Some of these will include bagpipes, drums, dance, puppets, vocals, and orchestras from nations such as Bolivia, China, India, Brazil, Spain, Russia, Taiwan, Tibet, and Lithuania. Madison will be well-represented with performances by groups like Mad Craic Irish Dance, Madison Mannerchor, Madison Chinese Culture Association, and Madison Pipes and Drums.
Local, national, and international clubs and associations will be on hand to pass out information about the countries and ideals they represent. Some of these will be Friendship Force of Wisconsin-Madison, Hurling Club of Madison & Madison Gaelic Football Club, and ten Madison’s Sister Cities organizations. Passersby will want to collect Business Cards and Flyers from the organizations they are interested in, in order to contact them later.
International cuisine will be one of the highlights for visitors. Some food vendors will include Café Costa Rica, Rolling Pin Bake Shop, Spice Yatra, and Taste of Jamaica.
Trade merchants, as well as arts and crafts vendors, will be selling everything from handmade items from Azkas Handmade to Celebration Art Studio’s henna tattoos.
International Festival 2019 is slated for Saturday, February 23 at Overture Center, 201 State Street. Hours will be 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. This event will be free.
