The 9th Annual Canstruction Madison will be taking place at the end of April and for a few days in May. This year’s theme will be AbraCANdabra.
The community competition is an effort to end hunger in Madison by collecting food and food items in a building competition. Local teams will have one day to construct their masterpieces at West Towne Mall, 66 West Towne Mall. That day this year will be April 24. From then until Sunday, May 5, passersby may vote for their favorite structures in person, through Instagram or Facebook for the ‘People’s Choice Award’.
A panel of community leaders and design professionals will also judge the entries and will award various trophies based creativity, engineering and use of color. One category award will go to the team that uses the most cans with a high nutritional value. There will also be an award for best use of labels, most cans and structural ingenuity. The youth award will go to the team composed of youth under the age of 18 that receives the most popular votes.
Teams to have signed up include Terso, Strand Associates, Inc., Springs Window Fashions, and J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. Teams in events like this enjoy making the event more colorful by wearing matching shirts with the business’s Logo Design on them.
All items used in the competition will be donated to the MOM’s Food Pantry, which serves Cross Plains, Middleton, and Madison.
