International music festival this month

People in the local Madison area and beyond will get an opportunity to enjoy music on an international scale later this month, as The Madison World Music Festival is coming to town for two days. All of the music performances will be free to the public.

The aim of the festival is to promote understanding among the world’s cultures as expressed through music. To that end, there will be artists from everywhere from South Korea, to Algeria, to Ethiopia, Cuba and many other places, all performing music from their native lands along with other music that has become international in flavor, transcending borders.

In addition to kicking back and enjoying the music, attendees can attend a play circle, or dance and singing workshops. Those who come will want to bring a good camera for capturing the action for later use in Stationery printing. There will also be approximately 150 vendors selling food and other international fare.

The festival will be held Friday, September 18, from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Saturday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. In addition, there will be a Fanfarai for families to enjoy together starting at 11:00 am on Saturday outside of the Children’s Museum, at 100 N Hamilton St. The venue for the festival will be the Wisconsin Union Theater at 800 Langdon St., Madison and Willy Street Fair on the 900 block of Williamson Street.
