February festival begins with run/walk

Frozen Assets Festival, coming in early February, will begin with its annual Frozen Asset 5k Run/Walk taking place entirely on frozen Lake Mendota.

The course will begin and finish at the center of the Frozen Assets Festival at the Edgewater.

In-person racer and walker registration will be $45 until January 30, going up to $50 on race day, while virtual participant registration will be $55. Children 10 years old and younger can participate for free with adult registration.

Madison race participants will be chip-timed, and walkers can get untimed walk passes. Awards will go to the top three female and male finishers.

Swag will include T-Shirts sporting the event’s 2023 Logo Design, and post-race beverages that will be available from 10:30 am to noon on the Boathouse Deck. Those wishing to grab an early breakfast or a quick cup of coffee can do so at the 5th floor Icehouse and the 7th floor Market Café beginning at 7:00 am on race day. Past participants will know to wear boots, snowshoes, spikes, or regular tennis/running shoes.

Early packet pickup will be at the Edgewater Level 6 on Wednesday, February 1 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Packets will also be available from 8:00 am to 9:30 am on ice rink Level 5 besides the Nolen Gallery on race day. Proceeds will go to improving and protecting the water quality of local lakes.

Frozen Assets 5k Run/Walk will be Saturday, February 4 at the Edgewater and Lake Mendota, starting at 10:00 am.
