All Madison snow bunnies and winter sport enthusiasts will want to be part of the 20,000 athletes and spectators expected to attend the upcoming Madison Winter Festival, all looking out for their seasonal sport of choice.
According to organizers, 90 truckloads of snow will be dumped in the square to create a wintery recreational and race venue. Activities will include the Frosty 5K Run and Walk, Frosty one-mile Dog Jog, and a cyclocross race. There will also be cross country skiing, sit skiing, hockey, curling, snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing. The event has been organized to promote and celebrate healthy lifestyles through winter recreation, art, and outdoor sports.
The festival will have activities divided into two groups. One of them will be composed of activities happening around the square, such as the Dreambank Winter Village’s ice sports, snow carving and Rooftop Icicle Festival at the Madison Children’s Museum. The other types of activities will include events like the snowshoe run, cross country ski race, and tubing hill.
The event will kick off with skating at the Rooftop Skating Rink at the Children’s Museum this Saturday morning, and will end with public cross country skiing on Sunday afternoon. All the activities should make striking subjects for pictures for later poster printing.
This wintery fun is scheduled for this weekend, February 14-15, at Madison’s Capitol Square, downtown Madison.
