Spring is coming, and it will soon be time for all Madison nature and maple syrup lovers to get outdoors and enjoy an afternoon of gorging on food covered with maple syrup.
At the end of this month, the Aldo Leopold Nature Center will be hosting its annual Maple Syrup Fest. Visitors will be able to meander through the grounds and stop at stations along the way. Each station will provide a demonstration, or activity related to the science and history of maple syrup making.
Demonstrations will show how Native Americans, pioneers, and present-day people tap trees for sugar and syrup. Guests can also tap trees themselves and taste the sap.
A Maple Syrup Trivia game will test everyone’s ‘Nature Smarts’, and another game, the ‘Build-a-Tree’ may help increase the participant’s knowledge about trees. The Rustic Children’s Shack will be open to little visitors. Volunteers wearing Early Pioneer attire will present a cooking demonstration.
The highlight of the afternoon for many will no doubt be the ice cream sundaes smothered with pure maple syrup. The gift shop will also have maple candy and syrup. The activities should make interesting subjects for photos for brochure printers to include in the center’s 2016 Flyers.
The event is scheduled for March 29, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, 330 Femrite Drive, Madison. Get a Free Quote for Flyers
