The 13th Annual Wisconsin Dulcimer Festival will take place next weekend.
The festival will open Friday night with Jam Time from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chapel Specialties, 817 E. High Street, Milton.
Workshops will take place the following day from 8:30 am to 6:15 pm at Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church, 8605 E County Road A, Janesville. Lorinda Jones will explore mountain dulcimer tuning, parallel chord harmonies, easy chord changes, and creating effective sets.
Donna Benkert will lead mountain dulcimer workshops in tips and tricks, ensemble setting playing, dulcimer jam session, and lullabies and waltzes.
Hammered dulcimer intermediate instruction will be given by Pam Bowman. She will present embellishments good for using in licks, chording, and a session about using patterns in the Western swing tune “Steel Guitar Rag.”
Tom Garrett will discuss the jaw harp, old time banjo, and how to play the mandolin.
Music enthusiasts at events such as this often ask the artists for their Business Cards so they can book them for gigs after the event.
Individual and group players are invited to sign up for an open mic experience from 1:15 pm to 2:00 pm, and there will be raffle tickets available for donated items from 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
A free concert will be held afterward from 4:30 pm to around 6:00 pm for workshop participants, or $8 for the public.
Janesville Dulcimer Festival will be held next Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.
