Paddles up for boat races

Teams of 16 to 20 eager paddlers are signing up to participate in the Dragons on the Rock 2022 Dragon race competition coming to Janesville’s Traxler Park in mid-September.

Each boat will contain paddlers, a coach, and a drummer to help the team keep the pace. Entry fee for non-profits boat-only participation is $1,200 and $1,500 for boat-only business entries. The fee includes one mandatory one-hour practice session which may be scheduled at Traxler Park, Tuesday, September 13 to September 16 in one-hour slots from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The race producers will provide boats, gear (including paddles, coaches, and lifejackets), and instruction.

Teams will be setting up 10x10 tents as home bases. Participants are encouraged to bring chairs, tables, games, non-alcoholic drinks, sunscreen, towels, hats, comfortable shoes, and garbage Bags.

On Saturday, each boat will race in two heats around the 200-meter course with the winners going on to the final round. Participants are encouraged to wear colorful team T-shirts sporting either the team’s Logo Design or graphic design.

Just before the race a captain-appointed member of each boat will paint the eyes on their boat to symbolize the awakening of the dragon.

Top three teams, best drummer, team tent, team shirts, and eye painting will win medals and awards.

Dragons on the Rock 2022 will take place from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 17.
