The Wisconsin Public Links Association will be sponsoring the 50th annual Ray Fischer 72 Hole Amateur Championship in Janesville in a couple of weeks
Considered one of the Midwest’s most prestigious events for amateur golf, eligibility to play in the tournament will be open to golfers having a Wisconsin State Golf Association handicap index of 8.4 or below. Over the first two days, the 192 qualifying golfers will be playing the first 36 holes, at which time the field will be reduced to 70. These top-scoring amateur golfers will play 36 holes on the final day. A sudden-death playoff will take place in the event of a first-place tie.
For those interested in numbers, the highest scoring winner for this event was Cherokee CC’s Dave Lund, the first winner of the tournament back in 1967, who had a score of 299.
Those who have family members, neighbors, or favorite golfers in the tournament may want to have Flyers printed to distribute to at their workplaces or neighborhoods to garner support.
The event will be at the Janesville Riverside Golf Course at 2100 Golf Couse Road in Janesville on the weekend of Friday, June 24, through Sunday, June 26.
