Janesville returns to yesteryear

The Janesville Renaissance Faire is returning to town in a couple of weeks.

Around 20 acts are on tap for the entertainment over the two-day event. They range from Elizabethan Pyrates, 16th century military entertainment and interactive education, 2 Noisy Knights acting out fairy tales, storytelling, Renaissance recreation, juggling, and cooking, to fire spinning, sea shanties, singing, and country dancing.

Stellamani Caravan will perform belly dancing on Saturday only. Water Street Bridge, Unseelie Court, and Jane the Phoole will perform on Sunday.

Over 45 vendors will be onsite selling renaissance items such as clothing, blown glass and games, clay dragons, geodes, ceramic jewelry, and pottery. Attendees can also purchase axes, ear cuffs, and Viking horn cups, and get their hands decorated with henna.

Eight food vendors will tempt passersby with chimneys, brewed quaffs, kettle corn, pickles, Italian ice, frozen bananas, and turkey legs. Forest Brew will offer hand-crafted lemonade and soda in souvenir bottles touting the event’s custom graphic design.

The Janesville Renaissance Faire supports the community through scholarships for high school seniors entering helping professions such as education and the arts. The event also donates to charities such as ECHO Food Pantry, Acts of Kindness, Golden K Kiwanis, and Tokens for Teens.

Janesville Renaissance Faire will be held May 18 and 19 at Traxler Park, 600 N. Main Street. Hours for both days will be 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.
